We are looking for a weekend Operations Assistant to join our team.

Job purpose

The weekend operations assistant will serve a key role in supporting the mission and operations of Basic Needs. This position is primarily based at our Thrift Shop in Cottage Grove, with occasional responsibilities supporting our food rescue program as needed. This position reports directly to the operations director. While on site, the operations assistant supports the work of our designated site managers or leads, who are part of our dedicated full-time volunteer leadership team.

Supervisorial Responsibilities

When needed to serve in a lead position on a particular day, this position will supervise other volunteers and staff onsite.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, staff and leadership. This includes resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of volunteers, staff, clients and visitors; respect of others, professional and appropriate communication.

  • Possess excellent communication skills

  • Use personal vehicle to transport and pick up food rescue and delivery as needed.

  • Be able to juggle multiple tasks and be flexible in working location and tasks each day.

  • Have the ability to learn quickly in a changing environment to evaluate food quality, display foods, and monitor distribution.

  • Have strong organizational, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.

  • Provide excellent customer service.

  • Use personal vehicle to transport and pick up food rescue and delivery as needed.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • A willingness to learn and flexibility in a changing environment.

  • Pass the background check.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and insurance.

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Working conditions

Mandatory work hours are every Saturday from 10am until 4:15pm and every Sunday from 11:45am until 4:15pm.

Physical requirements

  • Ability to work up to 7 hours per day, with frequent walking, standing, bending, and some days lifting and squatting.

  • Ability to lift and load 40 pound boxes or bags as needed

Benefits & Position details

Starting Wage: $18 per hour
