We are looking for two positive, energetic team members! We will be hiring two Operations Assistants to join our team within the next month.

Job purpose

The operations assistant will serve a key role in supporting the mission and operations of Basic Needs. Direct reporting will be to the operations director, however, when on site, reporting will be to the site manager or lead. The operations assistant will learn all aspects of the operations so they are able to help where needed each day.

Supervisorial Responsibilities

When needed to serve in a lead position on a particular day, this position will supervise other volunteers and staff onsite.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, staff and leadership. This includes resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of volunteers, staff, clients and visitors; respect of others, professional and appropriate communication.

  • Possess excellent communication skills

  • Be able to juggle multiple tasks and be flexible in working location and tasks each day.

  • Have the ability to learn quickly in a changing environment to evaluate food quality, display foods, and monitor distribution.

  • Have strong organizational, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.

  • Provide excellent customer service.

  • Use personal vehicle to transport and pick up food rescue and delivery as needed.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • A willingness to learn and flexibility in a changing environment.

  • Pass the background check.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and insurance.

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Working conditions

We are hiring for two operations assistants. One will be based at the Thrift Shop and one at our Free Food Market. A typical work week at the Thrift Shop will consist of working cash register at the Thrift Shop two to three days a week (10:30am-5:30pm Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays), weekend pricing or bringing in donations (10:30am-4pm Saturdays, noon-4pm Sundays). When a manager is not on site, the Ops Assistant will serve as manager on duty. A typical work week at the Food Market will consist of overseeing customer service at the front of the free Food Market by checking shoppers in, registering new shoppers, and ensuring shopping guidelines are followed, picking up food rescue from local stores or markets as needed, and helping with other daily tasks at the Market. When a lead is not on site, the Ops Assistant will serve as lead. Typical hours are M-F 10:15am until 3:15pm, and sometimes until 5:30pm Wednesdays (negotiable).

Physical requirements

  • Ability to work up to 7 hours per day, with frequent walking, standing, bending, and some days lifting and squatting.

  • Ability to lift and load 40 pound boxes or bags as needed
